Truck and Coach Technician

A truck and coach technician inspects, repairs and maintains commercial trucks, emergency vehicles, buses, road transport vehicles. Technicians perform work on structural, mechanical, electrical and electronic systems. The apprenticeship takes approximately 6,000 hours (3.5 years) of on-the-job experience and 720 hours of in-school training. Through Accelerated OYAP, students secure a truck & coach Cooperative education placement while taking Level 1 apprenticeship in-class training at both Bramalea Secondary School (Mondays) and Centennial College (Fridays). In-class Apprenticeship Training runs from February until June.

Level 1 Common Core Curriculum for the following trades:

  • Agricultural Equipment Technician – 425A
  • Heavy Duty Equipment Technician – 421A
  • Powered Lift Truck Technician – 282E

LEVEL ONE

Program Credits / Certification:

  • Earn 2-3 Cooperative education credits on Principal’s discretion
  • Earn 2 dual credits upon successful completion of “Level One”
  • Earn an in-class Apprenticeship Training and earn a “Level 1” designation

To Qualify:

  • Be in your graduating year, enrolled in 4-credit co-op for semester 2, with at least 26 credits.
  • Be in academic good standing with compulsory courses completed at the end of semester 1
  • Have experience and passion for the truck & coach industry
  • Have demonstrated work ethic, positive attitude and excellent attendance record
  • Have grade 11 college mathematics

Candidates will be interviewed in late November or early December.

Program Components Include:

  • In-class co-op community placement preparation
  • First week of February start-up of Level 1 Apprenticeship Training at Bramalea S.S.
  • Cooperative Education placement with a Truck & Coach company on Tuesday through Thursday
  • Level 1 Apprenticeship In-class Training on Mondays (Bramalea S.S.) and Fridays (Centennial College)
  • Program runs from: February – June

This program in semester 2 combines Cooperative Education at the home school along with integrated Level 1 Apprenticeship Training at Bramalea Secondary School and Centennial College, Ashtonbee Campus.

The Peel District School Board, The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training, & Skills Development (MLITSD) and Centennial College have partnered to offer this opportunity for students who want to pursue a career as a Truck & Coach Technician.
