Hairstylist

A hairstylist and cosmetologist is a highly motivated and creative individual who has the ability to deliver the very best in creative colouring, effective highlighting, colour placement as well as cutting techniques, chemical relaxing, permanent waving, long hair design, scalp analysis and the proper sanitation of tools per industry standards. A Cosmetologist has a career with endless opportunities. Make-up artist, medical esthetician, cosmetic chemist, and hair colour technician, all fall under some of the many responsibilities of a Cosmetologist.

BASIC LEVEL ONE

Program Credits / Certification:

  • Earn 2-3 Cooperative education credits on Principal’s discretion
  • Earn 2 dual credits upon successful completion of “Level One”
  • Earn a “Basic Level One” apprenticeship training designation in Hairstyling with Studio 500

To Qualify:

  • Be in your graduating year with at least 26 credits
  • Have a strong interest in working within the Service Sector as a Hairstylist
  • Be in good academic standing, including completion of all compulsory courses
  • Be willing to travel to a Cooperative Education placement and to Studio 500 in Etobicoke
  • Have minimum 65% Grade 11 Workplace College Mathematics
  • Have minimum 65% Grade 12 College or University English

Candidates will be interviewed in late November or early December.

Program Components Include:

  • 8 weeks at a Cooperative Education placement in the hairstyling industry
  • 8 weeks at Studio 500 to complete “Basic Level One”

This program combines a Cooperative Education placement in a leading hairstyling salon with a fully certified hairstylist, and Level 1 training at Studio 500. It is offered in Semester 2 and is open to students in their graduating year with a minimum of 26 credits.

The Peel District School Board, The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training, & Skills Development (MLITSD), the Ontario College of Trades and Studio 500, an Employment Ontario training centre offer this opportunity for students who want to pursue a career as a Hairstylist.
