Baker
Bakers mix and bake ingredients to produce breads, pastries, and other baked goods. Many bakers work in kitchens, large grocery stores, and bakery shops. Other bakers may also work for companies that manufacture large quantities of baked goods. This program provides an opportunity for students to begin and complete the “Level One” of their in-school apprenticeship training at Humber College and work as an apprentice in a variety of high quality bake shops throughout the Peel Region and GTA.
LEVEL ONE

Program Credits / Certification:
- Earn 2 Cooperative Education credits towards your Ontario Secondary School Diploma
- Earn 3 dual credits upon successful completion of “Level One”
- Earn a “Level One” apprenticeship training designation as a Baker at Humber College, North Campus
The education and training opportunities provided at Humber College in partnership with their Cooperative Education Department at their home school, allow students to be placed in bake shops throughout the GTA with qualified bakers. Upon graduation, students who remain in the industry through part-time or full-time employment will continuing their apprenticeship towards a Certificate of Apprenticeship.
To Qualify:
- Be at least 16 years of age and in your graduating year
- Have at least 26 credits
- Have experience and a passion for working in the baking industry
- Be in good academic standing, including completion of all compulsory courses
- Be willing to travel to Humber College and to a Cooperative Education placement
- Be willing to attend Humber College from February to June, concurrently with a co-op placement
- Have minimum 65% Grade 11 Mathematics
Candidates will be interviewed in late November or early December.

Program Components Include:
- Cooperative Education in-class preparation for community placement
- An integrated scheduling throughout semester 2 combines Level One Apprenticeship Training and a bakery co-op placement.
- Program runs from February – June
This program combines apprenticeship in-class training at Humber College and provides a Cooperative Education placement in the food services industry. It is offered in Semester 2 and is open to students in their graduating year with a minimum of 26 credits.
The Peel District School Board, The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training, & Skills Development (MLITSD) and Humber College offer this opportunity for students who want to pursue a career as a Baker.
